to bring a lot of energy
Hallandale Beach, FL ( - A couple of 3-year-olds, about to become 4-year-olds, from the barn of trainer Todd Pletcher are on their way to starting in Gulfstream Parks Donn Handicap in two months. Pletcher, who has been leading trainer at Gulfstreams Championship Meet for 11 consecutive years, will start Florida Derby winner Constitution and Arkansas Derby champ Danza in the $500,000 Donn on Feb. 7. Right now, Constitution is pointing for the Donn, Pletcher said. The question is, do we run him in between. I dont know yet. We might just train him up to the Donn. He came out of his last race very well. We know he likes Gulfstream, and I think this track will carry him a little more than Churchill Downs sometimes does. Constitution, owned by Twin Creeks Racing Stables and WinStar Farm, was third as the 5-2 second pick to 2-1 favorite Hoppertunity in Churchill Downs Clark Handicap on Nov. 29. Javier (Castellano) was very comfortable with the way he handled the first turn (in the Clark), Pletcher said. Javier felt like he was more relaxed than I did watching it, but down the backside he settled pretty well and I thought he ran a big race. Hes just getting back into form. It was only his second start since the Florida Derby and only his fifth lifetime start. Danza, 41-1 winner of the Arkansas Derby, is waiting to make his first start since getting third behind California Chrome in the Kentucky Derby. He came out of the Derby and he was wiped out, Pletcher said. He broke out in a skin disease from head to toe and lost some weight, and we decided to just stop on him and point for the Donn and work our way back. Well see. This years Donn was won by Lea over 2013 champion 3-year-old Will Take Charge. Lea, ridden by Joel Rosario, was the 5-1 co-third pick in the 11- horse field with Will Take Charge the 3-2 favorite and Revolutionary the 7-2 second choice. Trained by Bill Mott, Lea held on for a 1 1/2-length win over Will Take Charge. The 5-year-old chestnut horse came into the Donn off a win of Gulfstreams Hals Hope Stakes in January. Paul Hornung Super Bowl Jersey . But luckily for the Canadian squad, one goal was all it needed. Winnipegs Sophie Schmidt scored the winner off a Diana Matheson corner kick to seal Canadas third-place spot in the Torneio Internacional de Futebol Feminino in Brazil on Sunday. Bart Starr Super Bowl Jersey . Top-seeded Djokovic swept to a 6-1, 6-3 win over 51st-ranked Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain in just 57 minutes, but fourth-seeded Federer had to see off a serious challenge from 48th-ranked Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic before coming through 6-2, 6-7 (4), 6-3. Louis Cardinals have agreed to a one-year contract. Reggie White Super Bowl Jersey Jaire Alexander Super Bowl Jersey . The team of Lars Nelson, Daniel Richardsson, Johan Olsson, and anchor Marcus Hellner cruised to victory in the 4x10 km event, winning in a time of one hour, 28 minutes, and 42. ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The Denver Broncos took another step in the renovation of their secondary Tuesday by agreeing to a four-year deal with Pro Bowl safety T.J. Ward. Ward will play in a backfield that will be without Champ Bailey, who was released last week, and could move on without Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who entered free agency without a new deal from the Broncos. Ward had 129 tackles and two interceptions for Cleveland last year. The Broncos are looking for some stability at a position that got juggled last year, with the loss of Rahim Moore and the inconsistent play of Duke Ihenacho. Veteran Mike Adams, also formerly of Cleveland, started the season as a reserve but ended up in the starting lineup. "Hes a young, explosive strong safety who is going to bring a lot of energy and toughness to our secondary," Broncos boss John Elway said of Ward. But the Broncos arent expected to make the sort of free-agent plays that marked their last two seasons, when they signed Wes Welker and Peyton Manning. Denvers big receiving news Tuesday was a two-year extension for fourth receiver Andre Caldwell, who could move up a notch if the Broncos part ways with Eric Decker. Caldwell came on late in the season when Welker was sidelined with a concussion. The 28-year-old Caldwell had 11 of his 16 receptions over the final three games of the season. His most productive game in 2013 was against San Diego on Dec.dddddddddddd 12, when he had six receptions for 59 yards and two TDs. Caldwell was held without a catch in the 43-8 loss to Seattle in the Super Bowl. "Hopefully I can compete for an extended role this year and contribute a lot more to the team," Caldwell said. Caldwell received an invitation from Manning to attend off-season workouts at Duke University. Last spring, only Welker, Demaryius Thomas and Decker were invited to work on their chemistry with the five-time NFL MVP quarterback. "Its just a process of building confidence with those guys all the way from April," Caldwell said. Ward is expected to be a main piece around which the Broncos reshape a defence that was obliterated by an injury epidemic last season, losing Von Miller, Chris Harris Jr., Derek Wolfe, Kevin Vickerson and Moore. The Broncos also could seek a replacement for linebacker Wesley Woodyard, a free agent who is exploring other options. Theyll need a new starting guard now that Zane Beadles has agreed to terms with Jacksonville. Running back Knowshon Moreno is a free agent as well after rushing for 1,038 yards and 10 TDs in 2013. The Broncos also hired two new coaches on Tuesday, bringing in assistant offensive line coach James Cregg and offensive quality control coach Bo Hardegree. ' ' '
